HSS leader and Parliament Deputy Speaker Josip Friscic said that no patriot could agree with the ruling that Operation Storm was a joint criminal enterprise.
He said that the defence teams for the generals had done a good job but that the trial was about trying the Homeland Defence War.
The head of the HSS, which is a junior partner in the ruling coalition, called on the government and the parliament to lay down clear political positions and give clear messages.
He also called for unity.
The HSP described the ICTY's ruling in the case of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac as a political decision.
According to this party, the generals paid the price of the fact that the Croatian authorities were naive. It calls on the current government to step down as it has lost credibility through its failure to protect Croatia's interests.
HSP honorary president Anto Djapic recalled that since 1996, the HSP had been opposing any form of cooperation with the ICTY tribunal.
The HSLS leader, Darinko Kosor, branded this judgement as "a judgement against the Croatian state".
"Therefore we ask the Croatian government to protect us and do its utmost to challenge the verdicts in the appellate proceedings for the sake of our children and for the sake of future generations," Darinko Kosor said.
He accused former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic of contributing to this guilty verdict and criticised all the governments since 2000 for their passivity.
