ŞARAJEVO, Oct 16 (Hina) - The Bosnian Serb entity's commission in charge of investigating events in Srebrenica in July 1995 has established that 8,731 persons went missing in that eastern Bosnian town during attacks by Serb forces, the Sarajevo-based daily "Oslobodjenje" reported on Saturday.

After it received a lawsuit against the Bosnian Serb authorities filed by the families of missing Srebrenica Muslims seeking information about their fate, Bosnia-Herzegovina's House of Human Rights decided on the establishment of the commission and entrusted it with drawing up a complete report on the events in Srebrenica in 1995.

The deadline for the completion of the report was October 15.

Commission chairman Milan Bogdanic confirmed that the task was completed and that the document with information on missing persons had been forwarded to the government for consideration, but he would not comment on the figures.

The Bosniak member of the commission, Smail Cekic, was the only one to state earlier that the report contained information on "more than 7,000" people.

He explained that those were very precise data because they included the identity of the victims, their identification numbers, and the description of the circumstances and place of their disappearance.

Oslobodjenje reports that between 10 and 19 July 1995, 7,793 persons went missing in the area of Srebrenica, which at the time was under the formal protection of UN forces. After July 19, when the occupation of the town ended, another 938 persons went missing.

The Bosnian Serb government is expected to voice its position on the report soon, after which it will forward it to the Bosnian Constitutional Court's Human Rights Commission, which will make the final decision.

The chairman of the Croat-Muslim entity's commission for missing persons, Amor Masovic, said the Srebrenica report was certain to confirm that what had happened in that town was genocide.

This will provide legal grounds for the families of missing Srebrenica residents to file a lawsuit against Republika Srpska.
