THE HAGUE, Sept 30 (Hina) - Justice and interior ministers of European Union members and candidate countries met in The Hague on Thursday for a two-day meeting at which Croatia is taking part for the first time.

Representing Croatia are Justice Minister Vesna Skare-Ozbolt and the state secretary at the Interior Ministry, Ivica Buconjic.

The meeting is a regular six-monthly gathering of EU justice and interior ministers. This one focuses on the harmonisation of views on a five-year programme of measures aimed at expanding freedom, security and rule of law in EU countries.

Representatives of entry candidates -- Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey -- addressed the participants in an informal part of the meeting. Skare-Ozbolt spoke about Croatia's accomplishments in judicial reform and adapting to EU standards.

She also held a number of bilateral meetings, including with the justice ministers of France, Finland, Italy, and Austria, focusing on possibilities of cooperation in the judiciary and concrete projects being implemented as part of reforms under way in Croatia.
