"Never in the history of Europe have I witnessed such a fast development of democracy," Cosmo said, congratulating Croatia on having developed in a short period of time from a war-affected country to a candidate for membership in the European Union.
The delegations of the two parliaments also discussed cooperation in Croatia's negotiations with the EU and the continuation of Norwegian and other countries' assistance in de-mining in Croatia.
Cosmo conveyed his government's readiness to acquaint the Croatian political leadership with its experience in pre-accession talks and announced continued assistance in mine removal. Norway has been negotiating with the EU although its citizens opposed membership at referenda in 1972 and 1994.
The two sides also discussed experience in control over executive authority and the state administration to reduce corruption in bodies of authority.
The Norwegian parliamentary official, who will stay in Croatia for a few days, is also to meet President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and other government and parliament officials.
