Fila, who is helping Milosevic defend himself before the Hague tribunal, described reports that Milosevic might appeal the decision as "speculation and insinuations".
At doctors' recommendation, the trial chamber prosecuting Milosevic decided yesterday to appoint a defence attorney in order to prevent the further protraction of proceedings due to the defendant's poor health.
The trial chamber appointed former amici curiae Steven Kay and Gillian Higgins, which the tribunal's Registry has to confirm today.
Milosevic, who has been defending himself since the trial began in February 2002, vehemently opposed the trial chamber's decision, describing it as "scandalous and illegal" and announcing he would appeal it.
Milosevic is accused of genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina and war crimes in Croatia and Kosovo committed by Serb troops in the 1990s.
