had been taken prisoner by Italian andUstasha forces and executed by firing squad on August 26, 1941.
SINJ, Aug 26 (Hina) - A wreath-laying ceremony was held near the town
of Sinj, about 30 kilometres northeast of the southern coastal city of Split,
on Thursday to commemorate 24 members of the First Partisan Detachment from
Split who had been taken prisoner by Italian and Ustasha forces and executed by
firing squad on August 26, 1941.Wreaths were laid at the monument in Rudus by delegations of World War
Two antifascist organisations, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Socialist
Workers' Party (SRP) and the Josip Broz Tito Society.
Speakers at the ceremony reiterated their appeals to authorities in
Split and Sinj to restore the name of the First Partisan Detachment to the
streets that had once borne it, and condemned the memorial plaque honouring
high-ranking Ustasha official Mile Budak, which was placed in the village of
Sveti Rok last weekend.
