In response to reporters' questions to comment on a motion drawn up by the ruling Croatian Democratic Union on Saturday, on redrawing the boundaries of electoral areas, Friscic said that agreement should be reached on the matter.
We should try to avoid turning it into a political match between the opposition and those in power, and reach a sensible agreement on how to define electoral areas, along the lines of the Constitutional Court's opinion that each constituency should have roughly the same number of eligible voters, Friscic said in Zagreb.
Elections are close and every situation can be used for electioneering purposes, he added.
The HDZ's motion, which proposes a 2.78 percent margin in how much constituency size can vary, while the existing legislation provides for a margin of up to five percent, is to be on the agenda of talks with other partners in the ruling coalition this week.
Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has said that parliamentary elections will be held by the end of this year.
The HSS is a junior partner in the ruling coalition.
