CROATIA SIGNS PROTOCOL 14 TO EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS CONVENTION

ZAGREB, May 13 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul on Thursday signed Protocol 14 to the European Convention on Human Rights, which contains measures aimed at strengthening the efficiency of the European Court of Human Rights, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
ZAGREB, May 13 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul on Thursday signed Protocol 14 to the European Convention on Human Rights, which contains measures aimed at strengthening the efficiency of the European Court of Human Rights, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.#L# The protocol, which among other things extended the term of office of European Human Rights Court judges from six years with the possibility of re-election to nine years without the possibility of re-election, was signed on the last day of the 140th session of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg. Apart from Croatia, the document was signed by another 15 members of the Council of Europe, while Britain and Switzerland announced they would follow suit soon. On the margins of the session, Zuzul met his counterparts from Malta and Slovenia, John Dalli and Dimitrij Rupel, and Italy's Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Roberto Antonione. Dalli expressed his full support for the next phase of Croatia's integration with the European Union, notably for Croatia to be given candidate status and a date for the start of entry talks with the European Commission. Zuzul and Dalli agreed that relations between Croatia and Malta were friendly and that there were no outstanding issues between the two countries. They arranged meetings in order to boost economic cooperation. The session of the Ministerial Committee on Thursday morning was addressed by Zuzul's aide, Neven Madey, who stressed the importance of the European enlargement and supported the third Council of Europe summit due to take place in Warsaw in May 2005, the statement concluded.
