ZAGREB, May 13 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said on Thursday that Slovenia and Italy had expressed an interest in principle in joining the Druzba Adria project under which oil would be transported from Russia via Croatia and Slovenia to the Italian northern Adriatic port of Trieste.#L# "That, however, does not mean that we will not continue evaluating the impact of the project on the environment," Sanader said at a government session that endorsed a programme proposing a strategy for the development of the energy sector in Croatia. Environment Minister Marina Matulovic Dropulic noticed that the Druzba Adria project was referred to in the programme as "a fait accompli" and said that it was yet to be seen whether the project was worthwhile after a study of environmental impact was completed. Sanader said that assessments of all aspects of environmental protection relating to the project should continue. He went on to say that a feasibility study was being prepared for another project aimed at transporting oil from the Caspian region to Trieste via the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanza, the Serbian town of Pancevo and Omisalj on the Croatian northern Adriatic island of Krk. The Druzba Adria project now envisages oil transport from Russia to Omisalj via Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary. (Hina) vm
