ZAGREB, April 19 (Hina) - The Brazil-Croatia Interparliamentary

Government officials visited the Croatian Parliament on Monday, the
Parliament's Public Relations Office said in a statement.#L#
The Brazilian delegation met representatives of the Croatia-Brazil
Interparliamentary Friendship Group of the Croatian Parliament and the
parliamentary committees for foreign affairs, for interparliamentary
cooperation, for economic affairs, development and reconstruction, and
for agriculture and forestry.
The head of the Brazilian delegation, Francisco Sergio Turra, said
that the visit was of historic importance to Brazil because this was
the first step towards strengthening economic and political
cooperation between the two countries.
Turra said that Croatia was a very interesting country to Brazil
because its strategic position in Southeastern Europe provided
countless possibilities for using its economic, trade and transport
potential, particularly in the areas of shipbuilding and agriculture.
The next step in strengthening the cooperation between the two
countries would be a return visit by a Croatian parliamentary
delegation to Brazil and the appointment of a permanent Brazilian
ambassador to Croatia.
Turra wished Croatia success in its efforts to join the European Union
and NATO and become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council
in 2007.
