DUBROVNIK, April 9 (Hina) - The president of the Association of Workers' Trade Unions of Croatia, Boris Kunst, held a press conference in the southern resort of Dubrovnik on Friday at which he spoke, among other things, about the
current social situation.

in the southern resort of Dubrovnik on Friday at which he spoke, among

Kunst said that as many as half of the Croats fit for work were
unemployed, that a four-member family needed 6,880 kuna a month for
the minimum costs of living while the average monthly salary was 3,980
kuna, and that every child owed US5,500 the minute he or she was
born.
Kunst went on to say that his association, one of the strongest in the
country, expected better social dialogue with the government in the
next 100 days of its term of office.
He added the association had launched an initiative to reduce the
benefits enjoyed by state officials, who he said should not receive an
official's salary after they were no longer in office.
