The incident happened in front of the Croatian embassy in Belgrade on
Thursday morning. A group of protesters that headed towards the
building of the Serbian government to express their disapproval of the
developments in Kosovo began throwing stones at the Croatian Embassy
in the Kneza Milosa Street in downtown Belgrade.
No member of the embassy staff was injured. Diplomats and other
employees of the embassy left the premises and are now accommodated in
a safe place, the Croatian ministry said in a press release.
Responding to the protest, Ambassador Simurdic said this was a totally
sporadic incident which would not recur, the press release read.
Serbia's Interior Ministry stepped up security on the premises of
Croatia's embassy. Croatia's diplomatic mission is in contact with
Serbia's interior ministry and the foreign ministry of
Serbia-Montenegro which gave it assurances that they would protect
diplomats and staff of Croatia's embassy and consulate in Belgrade as
well as the embassy's facilities, the release added.
