ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Independent War Volunteers of Croatia (NDH) have protested against the eviction of Croatian soldiers from the houses which they were given for use in areas of special state interest and demand that the government discuss this problem and compensate the soldiers for the funds invested in the reconstruction of the houses.
ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Independent War Volunteers of Croatia (NDH) have protested against the eviction of Croatian soldiers from the houses which they were given for use in areas of special state interest and demand that the government discuss this problem and compensate the soldiers for the funds invested in the reconstruction of the houses.#L# Croatian soldiers living in areas of special state interest have been receiving court orders for eviction, without being offered alternative accommodation or compensation for the money they invested in the reconstruction of those houses, NDH president Slavica Hruskar said at a news conference on Tuesday. "We are not questioning other people's right to reclaim their property, but we want our soldiers to be given compensation, both in financial and moral terms. The soldiers, some 300 of them, did not occupy those houses by force, they were given valid certificates after Operation "Storm" to use the houses and the certificates are now being cancelled," Hruskar said. The soldiers are forced out of the houses by citizens of Serbia and Montenegro who even do not live in Croatia, Hruskar said. The government fulfils its obligations towards the international community and the Hague war crimes tribunal but it is doing nothing for Croatian soldiers, Hruskar said. (Hina) rml sb
