ZAGREB, March 4 (Hina) - The Serbian parliament on Thursday elected Predrag Markovic, a senior official of the G17 Plus party, as new president of the parliament.

Markovic was supported by 150 deputies (of the total of 250) from the
Democratic Party of Serbia, G17 Plus, the coalition of the Serb
Revival Movement and New Serbia of Vuk Draskovic and Velimir Ilic, and
the Democratic Party of Boris Tadic.
Markovic's election was opposed by 82 deputies of the Serb Radical
Party.
Former parliament president Dragan Marsicanin, a vice-president of the
Democratic Party of Serbia, resigned from this post after the
parliament on Wednesday elected the new government, with Vojislav
Kostunica becoming prime minister and Marsicanin economy minister.
