ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - The European Union's High Representative for
the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, will on Tuesday
pay a day-long visit to Zagreb, where he will meet the most senior
state officials.#L#
Solana will meet President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader,
Parliament President Vladimir Seks, and Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul.
He will also address members of parliamentary committees on foreign
policy and European integration.
Solana arrives in Croatia for his first visit since the election of
the new government and less than a week after his talks with Carla del
Ponte, the chief prosecutor of the war crimes tribunal in The Hague,
who during her recent consultations with European officials in
Brussels and in statements for the press announced an amended
indictment against runaway general Ante Gotovina, stating she was
confident that Gotovina was still in Croatia.
After meeting del Ponte, Solana reiterated the EU's full commitment to
the tribunal's mission and its ultimate success and offered his
assistance to del Ponte.
It is a duty of all countries in the region to fully cooperate with
the ICTY and do all they can to arrest and help arrest all indicted
persons who are still at large, Solana said.
However, cooperation with the tribunal will not be the main topic of
tomorrow's talks in Zagreb, Solana said in an interview with today's
issue of Jutarnji List daily.
He said he had already talked to Croatian leaders and that they would
cooperate with The Hague as they were aware that it was important for
Croatia.
He added that he had a positive opinion of the new government's work.
The senior EU official was originally to pay a two-day visit to
Croatia, but his schedule was changed in the meantime.
