ZAGREB, Feb 3(Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said at a session of the Commission for Accelerated Highway Construction in Dugopolje on Tuesday, that he was satisfied with the pace of construction of the Dugopolje section of the Dubrovnik-Split-Zagreb highway.#L# Sanader said he expected all sections of the highway to be completed in time and that a total of 177 kilometres of the highway would be opened to traffic this year. He said the remaining 50 kilometres of the highway would be built by 2005. Nearly 17 billion kuna (approx. EUR2.2 billion) has been invested in highway construction. "Highway construction is a priority of this government as it has been of the previous and all former governments, including the government which started the highway construction during the war," Sanader said. By the end of October, the government will adopt a mid-term programme on highway construction by 2008 which will include continuation of the construction of the Bisko-Dubrovnik section of the Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik highway, the Rijeka-Zuta Lokva higway, the Zupanja-Lipovac highway and Corridor Vc, which will be a total of 453 kilometres of highways and 61 kilometres of fast roads, worth 2.5 billion kuna (approx. EUR320 million). Also announced was the construction of connecting roads, which must be completed simultaneously with the highways. Sanader said that the construction of the Komarno-Peljesac bridge was an absolute priority. He said the bridge would be compatible with a highway that will pass through Neum. The construction of the bridge will pull Croatia's south and the Peljesac peninsula out of isolation and will contribute to the revitalisation of the peninsula and surrounding islands, the PM said.
