ZAGREB, Jan 24(Hina) - The Croatian PEN Centre concluded at its annual
assembly in Zagreb on Saturday that wearing fascist insignia
constitutes an act of aggression and adopted a decision to propose
amending the Penal Code in that respect.#L#
Sibila Petlevski, president of the Croatian PEN Centre, said the
decision was prompted by recent debates about a song in which Marko
Perkovic aka Thompson, a controversial popular singer, derides the
WWII victims of the Jasenovac death camp. She objected to any
exploitation of crimes in the entertainment industry.
Petlevski said the existing Penal Code does not state that wearing
fascist insignia is an act of aggression.
Speaking of other current events the Croatian PEN Centre should
comment on, Petlevski mentioned the recent "attempt to doctor a Hina
report" and the announcement of Feral Tribune weekly that it would sue
the Croatian Journalists Union over the latter's survey about
journalistic freedoms.
She said the most important event this year would the founding of a
Zagreb Literature Festival in cooperation with the Croatian Writers
Society.
