OSIJEK, Jan 23(Hina) - The leader of the Osijek-Baranja County branch
of the Croatian Democratic Union party, Branimir Glavas, issued a
statement on Friday in connection with the criticism levelled at him
earlier today by the Croatian Judges Association and its president
Vladimir Gredelj over his involvement in the Valpovo agribusiness.#L#
Glavas condemned the "frequent meddling of the first Croatian judge,
Vladimir Gredelj, in what falls within the jurisdiction of the
legislative and executive authorities in the Republic of Croatia".
Glavas said it was a known fact that for years Gredelj had been
abusing his position to "frequently and without justification slander
and lecture the legislative and executive authorities... under the
guise of a fighter for the independence of Croatia's judicial
authority".
Gredelj slammed Glavas for meeting the small shareholders in Valpovo,
accusing him of interfering with and influencing the outcome of legal
proceedings and of openly inviting to resolve problems in society
through violence.
In his statement, Glavas said he respected the independence of the
judicial authority and expected Gredelj to stop interfering in the
functioning of the executive and legislative authorities.
Glavas went on to say that neither he nor the workers in Valpovo, but
the majority owner in the agribusiness, Ivo Brzica, had asked for
postponing the execution of the court ruling. He said the decision to
postpone the execution of the ruling had been made by the only
institution competent in the case, the municipal court in the town of
Valpovo.
