Journalists on verdict against Novi List report Frank

RIJEKA, Nov 26 (Hina) - Participants in Croatian Journalism Days, heldin the northern Adriatic resort of Opatija, said on Saturday that theconfirmation of the verdict against journalist Robert Frank from Novilist daily, sentencing him to three months in prison with one yearprobation for libel and defamation was yet another case which warnsthat legal regulations on the criminalisation of libel must urgentlybe changed.
RIJEKA, Nov 26 (Hina) - Participants in Croatian Journalism Days, held in the northern Adriatic resort of Opatija, said on Saturday that the confirmation of the verdict against journalist Robert Frank from Novi list daily, sentencing him to three months in prison with one year probation for libel and defamation was yet another case which warns that legal regulations on the criminalisation of libel must urgently be changed.

Frank's appeal was rejected by the Rijeka County court in May. The Municipal Court in Rijeka gave Frank a three-months probation sentence following a private suit filed by Ksenija Linic, the head of the Rijeka City Office and wife of former Croatian deputy prime minister and parliamentary deputy Slavko Linic.

Ksenija Linic sued Frank over his article headlined "Rijeka's Shadow Mayor Feared by All Her Political Opponents".
