CAKOVEC, Aug 23 (Hina) - Medjimurje County prefect Josip Posavec
on Tuesday morning declared a state of emergency in the county due to an
alarmingly high water level of the River Mura, which reached 451
centimetres. Following extraordinary measures against floods that
were introduced last night, a water wave arrived from Slovenia threatening to
flood the settlements of Podturen and Dekanovec.
All available firefighting units are on the ground.
The Mura has not yet burst its banks, but this is likely to happen
since the river has continued to rise, the critical water level being 460
centimetres.
