The latest price of blue Eurodiesel is 4.28 kuna per litre.
The association states that Croatian farmers are aware of trends on the global oil market, but they point out a possibility of use of biodiesel as an alternative fuel given that this kind of fuel made up 30 percent of consumption of fuels at petrol stations in the European Union.
Biodiesel is an alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel made from renewable resources such as vegetable oils or animal fats. Chemically, it comprises a mix of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids.
The NHS believes that a long-term solutions should be found for this problem and proposes the introduction of biodiesel programme as Croatia has very favourable conditions for planting oleiferous plants such as soya bean, sunflower, oil-seed rape and sugar beet.
The association however criticised the government for failing to recognise Croatia's advantages in this field and for allowing a 30-percent fall in the price of oil crops this year as against 2004, which renders the production of oil crops as hardly sustainable.
The association suggests that the farm minister should appoint an expert group in charge of increasing viable production of oil crops which will help both Croatian farmers and facilitate better provision of biodiesel supplies.
