Announcing the lawsuit to be filed with the Vukovar County Prosecutor's Office, war veteran Ivo Kovacic told a press conference that there were reasonable grounds for suspicion that several identified and unidentified people had committed war crimes against prisoners of war during the occupation of the Vukovar area in the summer and autumn of 1991.
The concentration camp for Croatian soldiers and civilians from Tordinci, Vukovar and Tenja was set up in Bobota from 2 May 1991 until the end of that year.
According to research conducted by HDLSKL and testimonies of former prisoners, inmates were killed and subjected every day to beatings, torture by electric power and mental torture by being taken to fake mass executions and forced to watch beatings of other inmates. They were also deprived of food and water.
According to the action launched by former inmates, responsible people might be the commander of the then Serb police in Bobota, Dragutin Stegnjaja, his deputy Marko Lukic and policemen Zeljko Leskovc, Predrag Ilic, Novak Tesic as well as some unidentified people.
The veterans strongly condemned Serbia's accusations against Dr. Vesna Bosanac, the current and wartime head of the Vukovar General Hospital.
