Gelo was relieved because he was not professional enough in doing his job and not because of political requests, Sanader said in parliament answering a question by Josip Leko of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who claimed that Gelo was sacked because the official statistics did not show the economic growth which the government wanted it to show.
Parliament started its 15th session which will last three weeks, namely until 15 July when the constitutional deadline for regular sitting expires.
Over the next three weeks, deputies are expected to debate some 30 items from the agenda.
