BRUSSELS, June 18 (Hina) - European Union leaders confirmed on Friday at the end of a two-day summit that they will respect their decisions on further enlargement, without explicitly naming any of the admission candidate countries.

In the conclusions adopted at the summit, the European Council referred to its conclusions on enlargement adopted on 16-17 December 2004 and underlined the need to fully implement them.

Yesterday's conclusions were adopted without debate because the summit did not address enlargement, but financial prospects and the rejection of the European Constitution in France and the Netherlands.

The draft conclusions were agreed by the EU foreign ministers earlier this week.

The European Council decided last December to open entry negotiations with Croatia on March 17, provided that it fully cooperated with the Hague war crimes tribunal. On March 16, the Council of Ministers postponed the negotiations after evaluating that Zagreb's cooperation with the UN court was not full. The Council adopted a negotiating framework for Croatia, confirming that entry negotiations could commence as soon as said cooperation was full.

The part of the conclusions referring to the Western Balkans said that the European Council confirmed its commitment to the full implementation of the Thessaloniki agenda, which underlined that the region's future was in the EU.

The European Council adopted a statement on Kosovo saying that the decision on its status must strengthen security and stability in the region. The statement said that any unilateral solution or a solution resulting from force, as well as any changes to the current Kosovo territory, would be unacceptable. It added that there could be no division of Kosovo or its alliance with another state or part of another state.
