Osijek County PrefectOSIJEK, June 14 (Hina) - Kresimir Bubalo, a candidate from the listheaded by controversial politician Branimir Glavas, was elected as newhead of Osijek-Baranja County at the inaugural session of the countyassembly in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek on Tuesday.
OSIJEK, June 14 (Hina) - Kresimir Bubalo, a candidate from the list headed by controversial politician Branimir Glavas, was elected as new head of Osijek-Baranja County at the inaugural session of the county assembly in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek on Tuesday.

Bubalo, who was also the county head before the May 15 local elections, was supported by members of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), which was a coalition partner of Branimir Glavas in this county, as well as by a councilor from the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS), Zvonko Ibrikis, and councillors of the Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and the Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU), Zdravko Vukic and Stjepan Mitrecic respectively.

The new assembly chairman is Danijel Srb of the HSP.

The election of new leaders of Osijek County was carried out without the presence of deputies of the so-called anti-Glavas bloc. Other councillors of the HSS and the HSU and councillors of the Croatian Democratic Union, the Social Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, the Croatian People's Party (HNS), the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), and the local SBHS party, walked out of the session in protest against the election, saying that some councillors from the Glavas list had not been elected in accordance with the law.

According to Glavas, the election of Deputy County Prefect was postponed, as SDSS representatives turned down an offer made by his list and the HSP party to take part in the executive authority in the county. That's why this item on the agenda was postponed, Glavas explained.

Glavas and HSP leader Anto Djapic have sent a letter to the OSCE mission in Croatia pledging to comply with the all laws and international standards regarding the representation of the Serb minority in the local government. They wrote, among other things, that Serb representatives would be included into the county government and that this would not depend on their party membership.
