Mesic informed Kaelin of the reasons why Croatia attached great importance to the return of refugees and displaced people, the statement said.
Kaelin said he was impressed with progress Croatia made in that field in the past several years. He said he was particularly encouraged with the fact that there was an obvious political will for solving the problem of refugees and displaced people. He said that over the past several months the process, notably the restitution of property, had slowed down, the statement said.
The UN official said he was glad that Mesic represented such clear standpoints in these delicate and important issues, the statement said.
