ZAGREB, May 7 (Hina) - The workers with the Sljeme company, who have been protesting in front of the government's headquarters for 10 days demanding severance pays, said on Saturday they would not leave until they were given firm guarantees that their demands would be met.

At a protest rally which pooled several hundred people, the protesters were supported by their families and the residents of Sesvete, a town near Zagreb where the liquidated meat-processing company is located.

The company's chief union commissioner, Branko Miskovic, said they would not leave until a fair solution was reached.

The regional commissioner of the agricultural workers' union, Ivica Rogic, said negotiations with the government would resume on Monday. He added only the state, and not the majority owner Finagra, could be the guarantor for the workers' claims.

The participants in today's rally were also signing a petition supporting Sljeme workers' labour and human rights.
