OSIJEK, April 29 (Hina) - The head of an independent list of candidates running in the upcoming local elections in Osijek-Baranja County and the City of Osijek, Branimir Glavas, said on Friday that his list would play a crucial role in setting up executive authorities in the county and the city of Osijek and that he did not rule out any political option as a possible coalition partner.

Speaking at a news conference, Glavas said that the candidate for the county prefect was the current prefect Kresimir Bubalo, while a parliamentary deputy and Osijek city councillor, Vladimir Sisljagic, would run for the post of Osijek mayor.

"I will fight for Slavonia and Baranja because I do not want this historical region to be among undeveloped regions and I will fight for this platform in the Croatian capital and parliament. I believe time has come to disregard political differences and gather around one idea - the idea of Slavonia and Baranja as a region with an equal status in Croatia and Osijek as the centre of that region," Glavas said.

He again dismissed accusations that advocates of this initiative were "autonomy seekers harming Croatia's integrity". He added that the goal of such proposals was to adjust Croatia to EU standards and that they would spread throughout Croatia like a fire.

Glavas accused Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks of calling the local "Glas Slavonije" daily every day and threatening journalists to make them stop reporting about developments in Slavonia and Baranja.
