ZAGREB, April 21 (Hina) - The trade union of mine-clearing workers began a protest in front of the government building in Zagreb on Thursday because they are dissatisfied with the conclusions of today's meeting on the restructuring and receivership of the Mungos mine-clearing company.

"Now we trust only Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and if he confirms today's conclusions, we might agree on (ending the protest)," union president Niko Rezic told Hina.

About 60 Mungos employees gathered in front of the government building around noon, demanding a solution to the issue of the company's receivership, the payment of unpaid wages, sending a law on mine-clearing to parliament as soon as possible, and adopting a branch collective agreement for mine-clearing.

The protesters arrived with sleeping bags, saying they would not stop the protest until the government met their requests. Another 40 arrived later in the day.

At today's meeting at the Croatian Privatisation Fund, a task force proposed to the government to send into parliament a mine-clearing bill and a national programme of mine-clearing for the period up to 2009. Rezic said the union was unhappy because the bill had been ready a year ago but there had been no will to adopt it.

Deputy PM Damir Polancec said the protest was unnecessary because the government was doing everything to solve Mungos' issues and keep as many jobs as possible.
