The two officials agreed that Croatia and Turkey are on the joint path to EU membership. They said that there were no outstanding issues between the two countries and that both Turkey and Croatia were actively involved in stabilising Southeast Europe by respecting European values and democratic standards, according to a statement from the Parliament.
The two countries are official candidates for full membership of the European Union. Croatia expects to start membership talks on March 17 and Turkey on October 3.
Kopuz, who is on a working visit to Croatia, said that the Turkish Parliament had done a huge job of reforming and adjusting the country's legislation to that of the European Union.
Mimica highlighted Turkey's role as an important factor of stability in the entire region, and said that by admitting Turkey as a member the European Union would confirm its policy of openness and diversity.
