Responding to an article in today's issue of the Jutarnji List daily, the Agency issued a press release saying that the paper had run the article without checking relevant facts.
The Agency said that the daily was spreading fear among consumers by claiming that some food items contained banned and pernicious additives.
It also called on experts to express their opinion on food additives, noting that the article was based on incorrect and unauthorised facts taken from Internet pages.
The Agency said that food additives were not considered a risk factor for the health of consumers in the European Union and Croatia. Besides, their addition to food items is permanently supervised, the Agency said.
At the end of the release it was said that food items failing to meet Croatian regulations were always removed from the market, regardless of whether they were produced in Croatia or abroad.
