"The islands are our greatest wealth and we should draw attention to the need to preserve the environmental balance," Kosor said at a press conference in Supetar, reiterating that as soon as she was elected president she would propose that the government terminate the agreement on the Druzba Adria oil pipeline project.
Kosor said that the Croatian Adriatic coast should be protected from destruction, and that the central government and local authorities should be given a right of pre-emption in the purchase of property on small and occasionally inhabited islands.
Kosor also said that she would advocate establishing better links between islands and the mainland and improving the infrastructure on the islands. She underlined the need to build a fishing fleet in Croatian shipyards and to repair and modernise fishing ports on islands.
Asked to comment on the display of Serb nationalist insignia in eastern Croatia on Orthodox Christmas on Friday, Kosor said she respected the rights of national minorities in the country, but strongly condemned and opposed "Chetniks on the rampage", particularly in areas that were hit hardest during the 1991-1995 war.
After the press conference, Kosor held a rally on the waterfront where she presented her election platform and reiterated her views about the development of the Croatian islands.
