The deceased journalist, Ana Rukavina, who initiated a campaign for help to leukemia patients, was declared Person of the Year.
At the award-giving ceremony in Zagreb on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said this award was very important to him as he received it thanks to the opinion of journalists.
I am honoured as the award is given to me by journalists, and it is journalists who inform citizens, readers, the audience of what is happening, Sanader said, adding that a huge responsibility lies with journalists in this sense given that the right to information is a pillar of democracy.
Sanader said the award would be an incentive for him to work committedly in politics.
