Beamer made the statement when asked to explain why the State Department had denied Croatian media reports that the US government paid a reward for information leading to the general's arrest.
Earlier on Thursday, the State Department's Office of War Crimes Issues issued a statement saying that "recent reports in some Croatian media that the US Government paid a reward for information leading to the arrest of Ante Gotovina are incorrect."
"The US Government has not paid any such reward," read the statement Hina received from the US Embassy in Zagreb.
The story that part of a reward was paid to a person who revealed the whereabouts of the runaway Croatian general accused of war crimes was published by Globus weekly on Monday, citing diplomatic sources.
