Split's landmark Riva to be reconstructed in coming months

SPLIT, Oct 11 (Hina) - Split Mayor Zvonimir Puljic and the director of the Konstruktor company, Zeljko Zderic, on Friday signed a KN 66 million agreement envisaging the reconstruction of Split's waterfront Riva in the next six months.
SPLIT, Oct 11 (Hina) - Split Mayor Zvonimir Puljic and the director of the Konstruktor company, Zeljko Zderic, on Friday signed a KN 66 million agreement envisaging the reconstruction of Split's waterfront Riva in the next six months.

The reconstruction of Riva will commence on Monday and is expected to be completed until 7 May, the Day of St. Domnius, the patron saint of the biggest Croatian coastal city.

Some opposition parties, including the Croatian People's Party (HNS), and local intellectuals have expressed fears that the project for Riva's renovation is not in accordance with the centuries-old heritage of the city and that UNESCO and competent bodies in Croatia should have the final say in the matter.
