The trial chamber presided by Judge Boris Radman thus upheld the same prison sentence which Munjes was already given in 1995 when he was tried in absentia by the Zadar County Court, too.
The 43-year-old Munjes was found guilty of torture and intimidation of Croat Duje Pesut from the town of Perusic on 22 September 1991.
According to the indictment, while Serb rebels were transporting Pesut by van to a police station in Benkovac, Munjes hit Pesut with his gun and broke his nose. The convict also broke Pesut's eyebrow ridge with his boot and made a cut in the victim's throat with his bayonet and then licked the blood off the bayonet's blade.
In 1995, Munjes was tried in his absence and sentenced to nine years in prison. In March 2010 he was arrested in the Montenegrin coastal city of Bar and later extradited to Croatia, which organised his retrial. He pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer announced an appeal.
Munjes, detained in custody since his arrest, will be remanded in prison.
