The festival, to last until October 1, features more than 50 feature-length and short films, which are competing for the Grand Prix.
The 11 feature-length films include "Babilon" by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu of Mexico, which won the Golden Palm at the last Cannes Film Festival for directing and editing, and an award of the ecumenical jury.
Inarritu is expected to arrive in Split.
