Expressed in euros, exports amounted to 4.6 billion and imports to 9.8 billion.
The trade deficit exceeded 38 billion kuna (USD6.45 billion or EUR5.2 billion), while the export-import ratio was 46.8 per cent.
Compared to the first seven months of 2005, exports in this year's corresponding period went up 16.7 per cent when expressed in the kuna and 15 per cent when expressed in US dollars. Imports went up 14.9 per cent in kuna and 13.3 per cent in USD.
The European Union remains Croatia's number one foreign trade partner, accounting for 66 per cent of exports (USD3.74 billion) and 65.8 per cent of imports (USD8 billion).
Among EU countries, Italy remains Croatia's main trade partner. Croatia exported USD1.4 billion to Italy, up 28.2 per cent from last year, while importing over USD2 billion, an increase of 17.9 per cent.
Italy is followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatian exports to Bosnia went up 3.7 per cent to over USD666 million, while exports to Germany went up 13.5 per cent to USD611.46 million.
Croatian imports from Germany amounted to USD1.77 billion, up 11.4 per cent, while imports from Russia went up 31.4 per cent to USD1.17 billion.
