BELGRADE, Aug 13 (Hina) - At an event marking the 200th
anniversary of the battle at Misar, Serbian Interior Minister Dragan Jocic said
on Sunday that Serbia would not allow the separation of Kosovo, comparing the
battle at Misar and the battle in Kosovo to the ongoing negotiations on the
future of Kosovo. "Today's battle for Kosovo is being fought through
negotiations in which Serbia reiterates it will not consent to something that
no free democratic country had consented to before. Serbia will not be the
first country to give up its territory and its face," said Jocic, a senior
official of the Democratic Party of Serbia, led by Prime Minister Vojislav
Kostunica.
The battle at Misar took place on 13 august 1806. The battle marked
Serbia's first significant victory in the First Serbian Uprising against the
Ottoman Empire.
