The conference was opened by the Minister of Family Affairs, War Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Jadranka Kosor, who said that gender equality and the position of women was one of the Croatian government's priorities.
Although women account for 52 of Croatia's population, only 21 per cent of members of the national parliament are women, Kosor said. She, however, added that the number of women involved in politics in Croatia had constantly been on the rise since 1990.
Attending the conference, among others, were Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Justice Minister Ana Lovrin, Austrian Health Minister Maria Rauch Kallat and Albanian Minister for European Integration Arencu Trashani.
