Croatia aims to enhance hunting tourism, says minister

SANDROVAC, Jan 22 (Hina) - The tourism ministry will continue supporting the development of hunting sector so that hunting tourism can assume a more prominent role in the Croatian travel industry, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said on Saturday during his visit to the municipality of Sandrovac, northern Croatia.

Bajs spoke about the importance of developing niche tourism markets such as adventure tourism, mountain climbing tourism, fishing and hunting tourism, according to a press release issued by his ministry.

Last year, 6,000 foreign hunters visited Croatia, although in the past, there used to be up to 30,000 foreign hunters on tour of Croatia annually.

There are 1,060 hunting grounds in Croatia.

Over 52,000 Croatian hunters are included into the national hunting association.

Nearly 6,500 hunting licences were issued to foreigners in Croatia in 2010.

Since 2008, the ministry has allocated some HRK 1.4 million for improving the capacities of hunting grounds and fisheries for tourist purposes.
