SINJ, June 30 (Hina) - The leadership of the Alka Knights Society (VAD) and the Sinj authorities have agreed to jointly ask President Stjepan Mesic to once again become the sponsor of the Sinjska Alka tournament and to attend the 291st annual event on August 6, VAD president Stipe Jukic and Mayor Nikola Tomasevic told the press on Friday.
SINJ, June 30 (Hina) - The leadership of the Alka Knights Society (VAD) and the Sinj authorities have agreed to jointly ask President Stjepan Mesic to once again become the sponsor of the Sinjska Alka tournament and to attend the 291st annual event on August 6, VAD president Stipe Jukic and Mayor Nikola Tomasevic told the press on Friday.

Mesic sponsored the lancing tournament for the last time in 2001, when the Alka ended with an incident. VAD leaders banned Mesic's envoy from presenting the sponsor's gifts to the winner.

The new VAD leadership, elected this year, has changed the Society's policy and wishes to apologise to the president of the republic, in which it enjoys the support of Sinj's new coalition government.
