Sixty percent of employees in Croatia have secondary school education

ZAGREB, May 28 (Hina) - More than one-fifth of employees in Croatia have primary school education or incomplete primary education. Among the unemployed, 18.7 percent have primary school education or incomplete primary education, and the percentage among inactive population above the age of 15 is 57 percent.

Among the unemployed, 18.7 percent have primary school education or incomplete primary education, and the percentage among inactive population above the age of 15 is 57 percent.

Less than one-fifth of employees hold university or polytechnics degrees, less than one-tenth of the unemployed hold such degrees, and slightly more than nine percent of inactive population hold university degrees.

These data, presented by the State Bureau of Statistics in a survey on labour in the second half of 2005, give additional weight to the importance of education in Croatia.

The share of employees with primary education or incomplete primary education is 20.6 percent, while the share of employees with university and polytechnics degrees is 19.4 percent.

Most employees (60 percent) have secondary school education.

The survey shows that 4.8 percent of employees have incomplete primary education and 15.8 percent have primary education; 6.7 percent hold polytechnics degrees and 12.7 percent hold university degrees (including master's and doctor's degrees). Women with university degrees make up 14.7 percent and women with polytechnics degrees make up 7.7 percent of women employees.

As concerns the unemployed, 72.1 percent have secondary education, 18.7 percent have primary education or incomplete primary education, and 9.2 percent hold polytechnics and university degrees, including master's and doctor's degrees.

The survey also shows that 57.2 percent of inactive population above the age of 15 have primary education or incomplete primary education, 36.2 percent have secondary education and 6.6 percent hold university degrees.
