Kaliff was speaking at a press conference on the northern Adriatic archipelago of Brijuni after a seminar on the rights of national minorities and their exercise at local and national levels in Croatia.
Croatia will progress on the path to the EU in accordance with its national minority protection policy, he said.
Isidoro Gottardo, a member of the Committee of the Regions and commissioner for Croatia, said that an eight-member task force had been set up at the seminar to harmonise cooperation between local and regional government units in Croatia and the European Union.
Gottardo said that the Croatian government was pro-European, adding that minority rights in some regions, such as Istria, were protected, but that some regions did not have a positive position on the issue.
Ivan Jakovcic, head of Istria County, said that the seminar was of paramount importance to Croatia because the country was making maximum efforts to attain the highest European standards by respecting the rights of the national minorities.
