I expect great progress in the judicial system reform, which will require some time. I am sure that Croatia will meet requirements defined in the Copenhagen criteria and we are going to help the country meet those conditions, Frattini said in Brussels on Tuesday after the completion of a two-day inter-parliamentary session.
In attendance of the session were members of the European Parliament as well as parliamentarians from acceding countries - Bulgaria and Romania - and four parliamentarians from Croatia.
They discussed the rule of law and independent judiciary as a condition for admission into the European Union.
A member of the Croatian delegation, Drazen Bosnjakovic, said that the delegation had presented a new strategy for the national judicial reform and that "EP members positively assessed the document".
The head of the Croatian parliament judicial affairs committee, Emil Tomljanovic, added that "Croatia does not start from the very beginning and the country has made great headway in some segments of the reform".
