ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) on
Thursday called on the government to change its position and support the HSS
bill to boost domestic production for tourism purposes and in that way help
domestic producers and the economy in general. HSS members Ante
Markov, Bozidar Pankretic and Zeljko Pecek told reporters that in 2004 Croatia
imported 320 million kuna worth of agricultural produce, as much as 41 percent
of all fruit supplies, 24 percent of fish, 28 percent of vegetables and 13
percent of meat supplies.
They called on the government to make better use of some USD 6.5
billion of tourism revenue by granting incentives to domestic producers so they
could supply their products to the tourism sector.
