ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The Social Democratic Party (SDP) will
urge the parliament to give a vote of no confidence in Deputy Prime Minister
Damir Polancec whom the party holds responsible for favouring two holding
companies in a deal on the sale of the controlling interest in the Liburnia
Riviera Hotel chain, SDP leader Ivica Racan told reporters on Thursday. Racan said that Polancec had ignored an independent decision which
estimated the value of the deal at 554 million kuna and reached agreement with
the two companies on a price of 1.238 billion kuna.
Although the government has walked out of the deal after the media
learned of the case, the SDP believes that the government will have to pay the
two companies the difference of 700 million kuna sooner or later, Racan
said.
