Sunday from a monument erected in Veljun near Karlovac, some 50 kilometres
south of Zagreb, the Karlovac County Police department reported on
Wednesday. The police have filed charges against two Karlovac
residents, aged 38 and 39, who planned to sell the stolen plagues. Should they
be proven guilty they are facing a prison sentence, the police said.
According to unofficial information, the two man are Roma nationals.
The monument in Veljun was erected in memory of 525 civilians who were
killed in 1941 in line with racist laws of the Independent State of Croatia
(NDH), only because they were Serbs, Jandrasec said.
