The event, the largest of the kind to be held in Croatia this year, was organised by the Croatian-German publishing house "Egro naklada" from Zagreb.
The conference is being attended by some 160 representatives of Croatian companies and companies from other Southeast European countries, with speakers being experts from Croatia, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovenia.
The manager of "Egro naklada", Marijan Knez, said that HACCP was the strictest hygiene system in the production and distribution of food and the only such system recognised in the EU.
He added that only one percent of companies in Croatia met HACCP standards, which he said was a necessary precondition for doing business in EU countries.
