BELGRADE, March 9 (Hina) - The swan found near Sombor in
northwestern Serbia, whose sample was sent to Great Britain's Weybridge
laboratory on March 3 to be analysed, was infected with the deadly H5N1 strain,
Serbia's Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday. The director of the
Veterinary Administration, Dejan Krnjajic, told Radio B92 that rigorous
measures had been carried out in Serbia to prevent bird flu, in accordance with
European Union recommendations.
Krnjajic added that Serbia had begun establishing which areas were
endangered and infected and applying protection measures.
